A light glimmers in the house. The day begins. A hand traces a straight path on the table, which curves and becomes steep, unfolding in tangled strokes across the entire city. Coming to a halt, the stroke reaches the end of its journey. This environment is so damp that fish could jump in through the windows. The house marches on, alone, with its candles full of wind.
M.A.R. explores object manipulation through a choreographic performance of the body using working materials – objects which are gathered around the construction of a particular space: a house. Two stories are intertwined in this work: the story of a family home alongside a technical-poetical reflection on spaces and their meaning.
A discourse on space built upon the following premises: “Architecture is life’s stage. Each culture creates its own space. And as that space changes and evolves, it takes on a culture of its own.”
A journey through materials such as wood, paper, photographs, everyday utensils and drawings – items which, when implemented in a sequence of distinct movements, form a conceptual space in constant motion.
Andrea received her training in visual arts before ultimately shifting her focus towards language within performing arts and plunging into the universe of theatre. She currently works as a director, set designer and performer of her own productions, which focus on images as representations of knowledge and social memory containers that open up new dialogues between the work, the space and the audience. She has worked in Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Salvador and Cuba. In 2016, her production “Superbaby of Daugavpils” was distinguished with the award for best written and directed work at the International Performance Festival of Telpa · Daugavpils (Latvia). She currently serves on the board of directors of Nuevo Teatro Fronterizo (Spain) and as president of the association Lavapiés Barrio de Teatros. She is head of INVESTRO: Plastic and Scenic Arts Research Group and an active part of the scenography collective Espacio Telpa (Spain-Latvia).
