Victor Frankenstein, his mother, his sister, scientists and the creature move across the stage amongst others as they narrate, experience, search, suffer and laugh. It’s an immensely small world, a fascinating and incredible story.
A work of object theatre, “Frankenstein” is an operatic kaleidoscope that blends dialogue, vocals, music, sound generation and the body, inviting us to question what human limits are – or should be? – in terms of morality, justice, responsibility and devotion.
Compagnie Karyatides is an object theatre collective from Brussels. Founded by Karine Birgé and Marie Delhaye, graduates of Conservatoire d'Art de Liège, the group stages and adapts classic works using a multidisciplinary approach – with a mix of puppetry, object/shadow theatre and music. Compagnie Karyatides is devoted to a “theatre of little things”. Charged with everyday references and common clichés, familiar objects possess an intimate and minimalistic aesthetic that, when wielded, provoke a shift from which poetry emerges. Humorous staging strategies and imaginative narratives are particularly resonant features of the company’s productions.
