Life on Earth is amazing. One tiny little seed can give rise to a beautiful flower that blossoms and gives off a fragrant scent, a sweet smell that attracts bees, who turn the flower’s nectar into honey, which we people spread on our toast at breakfast.

In “Cyclo”, director Layla Raña Kanacry and her young audiences celebrate life as the constant interplay between humankind and nature. In her work, she combines Latin-American music, dance and object theatre into a festively atmospheric ritual able to capture the imaginations of audience members both young and old.

“In light of the coronavirus pandemic, with increasing numbers of infections and deaths, this production has gained unforeseen relevance. Through the cycles of nature, the play takes up themes such as fear of loss and fear of transience – things which corona inherently brings with it – on a small scale. Especially for children and teens who do not know how to deal with fear, the play offers a pillar of support. [...] The resulting work is beautiful. Founded in 2010 by Layla Raña Kanacri, Compañía Aranwa is a pioneer of early childhood performing arts in Chile. Using body language and dance, live music and the art of transforming objects, their shows tell stories full of textures, games and surprises for children from 3 months to 6 years of age.
