Besuch bei Katt und Fredda
Katt und Fredda

echtzeit-theater, Münster

Katt and Fredda live together in a comfortable yet unspectacular state of togetherness. When Katt suggests it might be nice to have a visitor, Fredda is not too keen on the idea. But then Miranda shows up at their door and turns their orderly lives upside down. Fredda adores their quirky guest, Katt feels left out. Relationships are put to the test; new constellations emerge. And in the end, everybody must decide who gets to stay and who should go.

With a good dose of humour, echtzeit-theater’s latest production examines how we experience change and takes a closer look at rules for cohabitation.

Selection committee statement excerpt:
“This play, which is more than 20 years old, seems more relevant now in times of Corona than ever. Distance and closeness, maintaining the status quo and starting afresh, stability and flexibility, fiery temperament and peaceful calm, individual and group, everyday routine and change, friendship and jealousy – the production scrutinises each of these pairs of opposites with wit and enthusiasm.”

A room-filling, inflatable, bouncy cushion – a highly appealing visual that exponentially augments the already rousing rhythm of David Gruschka’s fast-paced, dynamic production in terms of movement and language. It serves as a microcosm of the protagonists’ consistently steady relationship, which is quickly changed by the arrival of a third person. The old adage soon proves true: “two’s company, three’s a crowd.”

The story of Katt and Fredda is a prime example of echtzeit-theater’s philosophy in action, which aims to spark the minds and imaginations of young audiences through a variety of new formats and approaches. The result is a highly musical performance with a rousing tempo.

The company echtzeit-theater from Münster is dedicated to maintaining close, candid audience interaction while confronting young people with stylistic and aesthetic impulses they have never encountered before in addition to revealing and discussing the creative potential of theatre. The ensemble regularly collaborates with a variety of different artists and its productions have been invited to multiple national festivals.
