Soundpainting with Ceren Oran

Friday 20.08,2021, 16.30 - 17:45 Uhr, digital workshop

Soundpainting is a sign language for live composing created by New York-based composer Walter Thompson in 1974. Capable of being used with musicians, dancers, actors, poets and visual artists, Soundpainting has grown into an international, live composing sign language used in many countries around the world, both in the professional and educational arenas.

It is a fascinating tool for working with children, art students, teachers, amateur theatre groups or choirs, children with different cultural backgrounds or those with special needs. It helps practice listening, understanding group energy and the individual skills needed to improvise with voice, movement or theatrical characters. Its multidisciplinary structure gives every single participant the possibility to perform and compose during the workshop or project.

In a joint 90-minute workshop, the festival’s professional visitors will gain insight into this multidisciplinary language. On the days that follow (21 + 22 August), participants can deepen what they have learned in face-to-face sessions of 30 minutes each. Both the workshop and the individual sessions will take place digitally via Zoom. A digital device is required for participation. Registration for the face-to-face sessions will be possible directly after the workshop and can be arranged individually with Ceren Oran.

The production discussions and several other events in the accompanying programme will take place via Zoom. Each participant must provide his or her own digital device to access the event. Wi-Fi and comfortable seating will be available on the festival grounds.

Access codes and links will be made available during the festival, both digitally and analogue. Our staff on site will be happy to provide technical and organisational assistance, where possible, so that every festival participant can take part.
